Expectations
Acrylic on canvas
36"x48"
PRODUCT INFO
Expectations captures the weight of what society puts on women—especially mothers—under the patriarchal system currently in place. The piece explores the pressure to be everything at once: the caregiver, the nurturer, the perfect woman who holds everything together, often at the expense of herself.
The vibrant, colorful background represents the world women are expected to participate in and maintain—the illusion of order, beauty, and "perfection" they’re responsible for upholding. In stark contrast, the dark, fragmented images disrupt this polished surface, simply stating, “I’m here.” These fractured figures reveal the tension between visibility and erasure, between showing up for the world, loving fully and holding onto oneself.
Through layered imagery and powerful symbolism, the artwork makes the unseen burdens of emotional labor and societal pressure impossible to ignore. There’s a sense of duty, sacrifice, and the quiet exhaustion that comes with constantly being expected to do more, give more, be more. It is a personal interpretation of the realities of womanhood and motherhood in a world that still asks too much.
